Release Biography

Baxter Roy Long grew up in Eastern Colorado and began experimenting with sound in a tack room stall circa 2004. Though their days on the plains are in their rear-view mirror you can still feel, touch and merely smell the dry alfalfa hay bales, horse hair, and saddle soap in their sonic contributions. They record, produce and solely play (unless noted otherwise) all their records. Long’s music is playful, full of movement and always in a shifting formation of curious wonder. Perhaps Long arrived on this chaotic plane with the sole purpose of carrying a desert flower through the chasm to place it gently against your ear for the sake of a delicate embrace.

Long tends to constantly be on the move and they discussed such things in a candid interview with GoldFlakePaint entitled “Roots vs. Wings: How Baxter Roy Long Stays Planted in the Shifting Sands of Time.” Furious Hooves was proud to release two albums simultaneously for Baxter Roy Long on February 10th 2017 digitally, as well as on limited edition cassette tape. Flower Essence Questionnaire’ was recorded in the Winter of 2015 - Spring 2016 across Lewiston, Maine; Elizabeth, Colorado; and Buffalo, New York. Palms on the Setting Stone’ was recorded in 2014 across Sequim & Seattle, Washington; and Buffalo, New York.

Press & Accolades

Not to be outdone, ‘Palms on the Setting Stone’ only furthers the experimentation, though is generally a warmer record that builds robust atmospheres of the American kind—vast and lonely and full of life. Here, every horizon holds the promise of another, one wider and brighter and possibly stranger too, a land full of a million weird, fleeting, experiences populated by jackalope and agropelter, sasquatch and snallygaster.
